The San Elizario I.S.D. projects required multiple site construction consisting of a 12,000 square foot Alternative School, a 10,000 square foot High School Gym, a 10,000 square foot Middle School Gym, a 53,500 square foot new Elementary School, a 22,000 square foot new Administration Building, and a 26,000 square foot new Vocational Wing.
The Alternative School included classrooms, computer labs, an eating hall, an administration area, exterior play courts, and a site asphalt parking lot with perimeter landscaping. The Elementary School (Borrego Elementary) included classrooms, a gymnasium, an administration area, cafeteria, stage area, computer lab, library, site work, parking lots, playgrounds, and necessary infrastructure. The Vocational Wing included classrooms, a beauty salon, auto shop, computer lab, an access drive, parking lots and landscaping.
VEMAC approaches a project in its entirety. Before the San Elizario I.S.D. project broke ground, VEMAC assisted in relocating 16 commercial beehives that had been abandoned at the selected site. The relocation was done months before construction began to ensure that returning bees wouldn't pose a threat to the workers.
The size of the project demanded careful coordination between the El Paso County Road and Bridge Department, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the Lower Valley Water District. With these entities, VEMAC assisted the county in installing access roads to the site, assisted the state in installing safety traffic lights, and the water district to calculate current and future sewer requirements. Some of this work was outside our scope of work, but vital to the on time completion of the project. VEMAC also assisted the School District in acquiring and installing school and library furniture. Again, this was outside the scope of work, but enabled the project to be completed in less than 10 months.
